What are Innobrix Parameters?
Innobrix parameters are the 3 (formerly 4) parameters injected into the Revit document when you click the Prepare Document
button in the Innobrix add-in.
The 4 parameters are:
- Innobrix: Type(s)
- Innobrix: Column
- Innobrix: Row
- Innobrix: Floor (legacy)
SINCE ADD-IN VERSION 2.0.0 this parameter is deprecated. Existing models still using it remain functional, but a future release will drop support.
There is a 5th read-only parameter normally hidden and only used during import: is Situation.
These Shared, Instance-based parameters appear on all Model Groups in the document once injected.
Be careful when purging a document without Innobrix parameters filled. Purging can remove the parameters and break the add-in. If this happens, add the Innobrix parameters back manually or rerun Prepare Document (add-in 2.0.0+) to re-inject missing parameters.
Which parameters do I need?
It depends on the project type. For BIM Publisher, parameters are not needed and you can export directly via Export without options. For Home Configurator and (optionally) Plan Configurator, use the Innobrix parameters. For models with dynamic options, you must fill parameters on the Model Groups that make up the model.
The parameters place Model Groups in a gridfield at specific locations based on parameter values. The gridfield applies when the model uses option groups.
Columns & Rows
Innobrix: Column and Innobrix: Row matter once you use options. After exporting a model with options from Revit, you will see these groups in the gridfield. Find the gridfield in the
Configurable Editor by clicking the icon and then Expanded.
You can read the applied parameters at the top-left of each group in the expanded gridfield. The Model Group name appears bottom-left of each group.
Innobrix: Column
This parameter is best described as a category. You can attach labels to columns to keep oversight as the gridfield grows.
It is advisable to plan your Innobrix: Column layout in advance.
- Column: 0 => Front facades
- Column: 1 => Rear facades
- Column: 2 => Side facade (Left)
- Column: 3 => Side facade (Right)
- Column: 4 => Layouts (Ground floor)
Above is an example. You could merge columns 2 and 3 into a single column 2 => Side facades with multiple rows. Whether merging is desirable depends on variation.
Good rule: the more variation within a category (side facades, front facades, rear facades, layouts), the more desirable to place it in its own column.
Only one group per column can be active. You cannot stack multiple groups within one column at the same time.
Innobrix: Row
This parameter refers to an option within a column. Innobrix: Row set to 0 usually indicates the standard group. In the gridfield a standard group is shown in
Illegal Parameters
Problems arise when parameters are filled incorrectly. Known issues:
- Using letters instead of numbers in
Innobrix: ColumnandInnobrix: Row. - Negative values (-1, -2, etc.) in
Innobrix: ColumnandInnobrix: Row. - Two separate Model Groups with exactly the same parameters. (The add-in since 2.0.0 will also show an error for this.)
